Course Syllabus

Over the five weeks of the course, we will discuss and practice the following key SEO management concepts from the standpoint of the agency owner and freelancer.

Week 1

1. Introduction to Modern SEO

You will learn how search engines discover, index and rank pages, SERP anatomy, and AI Overviews, as well as how to future-proof your rankings.

2. Technical SEO

You will learn how to run a technical SEO audit, which tools to use, and what to pay attention to and ignore. We will discuss various tools both free and paid.

Week 2

3. Building SEO Strategy

You will learn what relevance means, how to conduct topic research, starting with the audience and its journey to getting the keywords into buckets for content creation.

4. Content Optimization

You will learn content optimization and key page elements to optimize and avoid over-optimization. We will also discuss how SEO and UX work together to match user intent and expectations.

Week 3

5. Authority Building

You will learn about backlinks, what to avoid in link building and how to approach getting backlinks for your clients’ websites.

6. Local SEO

You will improve local search visibility for your clients. We’ll discuss what’s important and your options for doing it in-house or outsourced.

Week 4

7. Measuring & Reporting

You will learn about tracking SEO performance. You will learn what to report and what to omit from your client-facing reports.

8. Managing Work & Team

You will learn to better manage your work processes and team members (both in-house and outsourced).

Week 5

9. Finding Clients

You will learn how to find your niche, conduct pre-pitch SERP audits, create proposals, and onboard clients. You will get access to resources and templates.

10. Special Cases

We will cover different types of SEO by niche like travel SEO, eCommerce SEO, SaaS B2B SEO, etc. You will learn key specifics in each of the fields.

Do I get a recording of lessons if I can’t make the lesson?

Yes, each session will be recorded for you to watch if you missed it. It’s also helpful to review the videos if you have questions.

Are there course prerequisites?

Current digital marketing freelancing practice or running a small digital marketing agency. This course is geared towards an intermediate-level student.

What’s the expected time commitment?

You are expected to commit 3 hours weekly to online sessions and 1-2 hours weekly to assignments. In total 4-5 hours per week. Beyond that, you can spend additional time implementing things you’ve learned in this course.

What software do I need for this course?

A browser and a Google Account. During the course I will be using both free and paid SEO software including Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, SEMrush and others. I will provide you with a complete list during the onboarding.
